1973 Belmont Stakes Race Worn Nail Framed Collage (Turcotte signature)

This incredible piece of memorabilia contains a very rare race worn Belmont Stakes nail, and beautiful hand signed illustration of Secretariat's Hall Of Fame Jockey Ron Turcotte.  Secretariat's exercise rider Jim Gaffney collected the nail on June 26, 1973 just 17 days after The Belmont Stakes where Secretariat won by an amazing 31 lengths, setting a still standing track record in capturing The Triple Crown.  The framed collection was personally assembled by Mr. Gaffney on November 27, 2004, with his own handwritten comments regarding the nail and its authenticity prominently featured on the reverse of the matting.  This museum quality piece is registered in The Official Secretariat Archives (sec060973jgfr1) and comes with complete documentation signed by Secretariats owner Penny Chenery Tweedy in addition to a meticulously documented chain of ownership, including personal correspondence from Gaffney's widow.  A similar, but undocumented nail sold for $28,557.60 on October 27th, 2017 by Leland’s Auction House.
