1973 Chenery/Tweedy Arlington Park Program

Description:

Penny Chenery/Tweedy family's original and personal track-used official track program from Secretariat's victory in the Arlington Invitational on June 30, 1973 at Arlington Park in Chicago.

Cataloged as Item #secpr063073ap-MCL2 in The Official Secretariat Archive.  Displaying the effects of celebratory handling, the program has been retained in protected storage as part of the private archives of the Chenery family, who attended the race.  The Arlington Invitational was selected as the next subsequent start for Secretariat following his historic Belmont Stakes victory three weeks prior. The Invitational was created to showcase Big Red to Illinois racing fans and millions of television viewers, who clamored for a glimpse of Secretariat in their post Triple Crown euphoria.  The unique aspect about the race, as evidenced in the program, is that it only offered two wagering options: bet on Secretariat, or bet against him on the field of three rivals grouped together as a second entry. The smart money went on Secretariat, easily winning by nine lengths in a time that just missed the track mark by 1/5 second.

Insured Value: $3,000.00
